Peer Work Training

Trauma-Aware Series

Real stories. Meaningful work. Shared generously.

Peer work is unlike almost any other role.

Most jobs don't ask people to thoughtfully draw on their own lived experience, create genuine connection, challenge stigma, hold hope for others and remain professionally reflective all at the same time.

Peer work is powerful.

It's also something that deserves support, development and spaces to keep learning.

At The Peer Practice, our training is built by people who have lived it. We combine lived experience, practical knowledge, reflection and conversation to help individuals, teams and organisations strengthen their understanding of peer work and the unique contribution lived experience brings.

Our workshops can be delivered individually or as part of a tailored learning series.

Our Training Sessions

An Introduction to Peer Work

So... what actually is peer work?

Ask ten peer workers and you'll probably get eleven different answers.

This workshop explores what makes peer work different, the values that sit at the heart of lived experience practice, and why peer work can't simply be reduced to a job description.

Together we'll explore:

  • What makes peer work unique

  • Hope, connection and mutuality

  • Lived experience as expertise

  • Authenticity and boundaries

  • The role peer workers play within teams, services and communities

Perfect for emerging peer workers, organisations and anyone curious about the world of peer practice.

Sharing Our Stories

Because our stories matter. So does how we tell them.

One of the things that makes peer work so powerful is the ability to share our experiences in ways that help other people feel seen, understood and less alone.

But sharing our stories isn't about telling people everything.

It's about being intentional.

This workshop explores how lived experience stories can be used safely, thoughtfully and effectively within peer practice.

We'll explore:

  • Finding your peer story

  • Sharing with purpose

  • Boundaries and safety

  • The difference between storytelling and peer practice

  • Using stories to create hope and connection

There are no perfect stories here. Just real people learning how to use their experiences in meaningful ways.

What is Peer Supervision?

Because even peer workers need peer support.

Peer workers spend a lot of time creating safe spaces for other people.

Supervision is a chance to have someone create that space for you.

This workshop introduces the purpose and value of peer supervision, reflective practice and the role they play in sustainable lived experience work.

We'll explore:

  • What peer supervision is (and isn't)

  • Reflective practice in everyday work

  • Professional growth and development

  • Looking after yourself while supporting others

  • Why supervision matters

Suitable for peer workers, leaders, managers and organisations wanting to better support their lived experience workforce.

Guest Speaking & Facilitation

Sometimes a story can change everything.

Our lived experience facilitators and speakers regularly present at conferences, team days, workshops, community events, panels and professional development sessions.

Whether you're looking for a keynote speaker, panel participant, workshop facilitator or someone to help spark meaningful conversations, we'd love to explore how we can contribute.

Topics can include:

  • Peer work and lived experience leadership

  • Mental health and wellbeing

  • Neurodiversity

  • Recovery and growth

  • Trauma awareness

  • Suicide prevention

  • Building more human workplaces

Every audience is different, so every presentation is too.

Suicide Prevention Training

Some conversations can feel difficult. They can also be incredibly important.

Our Suicide Prevention Training combines lived experience, practical skills and evidence-informed approaches to help people feel more confident supporting others experiencing suicidal distress.

Not sure what you need?

Perfect.

Some people arrive knowing exactly which training they're looking for.

Others have a thought that starts with:

"We've got this idea..."

Both are great places to start.

Let's have a conversation about what might work best for you, your team, workplace or community.
